Claire + James’ Reception

Claire and James’ reception was a heartfelt celebration that blended local charm with the warmth of loved ones gathered from around the world. The evening began with two signature cocktails: a West Virginia Mule crafted with Smooth Ambler whiskey and a Lillet Gin Fizz featuring Smooth Ambler gin—each finished with a sprig of freshly picked local basil. These drinks perfectly complemented an appetizer spread centered around country ham biscuits and homemade pimento cheese. As the night unfolded, guests drifted onto the lawns surrounding the Barn, savoring the flavors, the laughter, and the breathtaking mountain views.

The bride and groom adored the barn’s natural beauty and chose to keep the décor simple, allowing its cathedral-like architecture to shine. Soft ceiling drapery and twinkling lights from Gillespie’s added a touch of warmth, while a cherished family heirloom quilt and framed photos brought a personal touch. Tables were dressed in muslin cloths and set with vintage-inspired silverware, accented by locally grown early-summer blooms arranged in silver vases.

After cocktail hour, guests gathered to enjoy a country-style feast prepared by We Cook Catering. The menu featured tender beef, roasted chicken, corn pudding, macaroni and cheese, green beans, buttered red potatoes, and fresh fruit salad—each dish a highlight of rustic elegance. As the sun dipped behind the hills surrounding the Barn, guests lingered over second helpings and sipped summer brews from Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company. Laughter and stories filled the air as nearly twenty heartfelt toasts were shared by friends and family celebrating the happy couple.

Dinner gave way to dancing under the stars and the cutting of twelve heritage cakes, lovingly made by friends, family, and local bakeries. Claire and James were overjoyed, and their 210 guests—whether visiting from down the road or across the globe—savored every moment and every bite of the farm wedding’s distinct local charm.
